Australia Secures Olympic Spot in 4x100m Relay; Other Australian Teams Miss Out on Qualification

Australian women secure quota for Paris 2024 in 4x100m relay

The Australian quartet put in a tremendous effort that not only broke their own national record but also set a new Oceania record in the 4x100m event. This achievement guarantees Australia a spot in the Olympic 4x100m event for the first time since Sydney 2000. Bree Masters expressed her excitement and disbelief at the team’s success, emphasizing the significance of securing automatic Olympic qualification.

On the other hand, other Australian teams did not manage to secure a quota on the opening day. The men’s 4x100m relay team finished third in their heat, just missing out on qualification by a whisker. Despite a close finish with Jamaica, they clocked in just short of the mark needed to qualify for the Olympics. Similarly, both Australian men and women’s 4x400m relay teams finished fourth in their heats and failed to advance to the finals. Unfortunately, Australia was not represented in the mixed 4x400m event either.

Although all four Australian teams missed out on Olympic qualification on Saturday, they will have another chance on Sunday. An additional qualifying round will give them another opportunity to secure a spot at Paris 2024 Olympics. The top two teams from each heat in this qualifying round will also qualify for this prestigious event, giving our Australian athletes another chance to shine.
