Curiosity Rover Makes Strategic Adjustment in Sol 1991-1992 Plan: Prioritizing Contact Science Activities for Deeper Understanding of Vera Rubin Ridge Compositions

Sol 1991-1992: Prioritizing Science and Moving at our Own Pace

The successful completion of the weekend plan has prompted the team to make a strategic adjustment to the sol 1991-1992 plan. Instead of driving further away, they have opted for more “touch and go” contact science activities to document variations in chemistry and rock texture along the Vera Rubin Ridge.

The plan commences with an APXS observation of “Seaforth Head” and MAHLI images of the same target. ChemCam and Mastcam will also be used to analyze Seaforth Head, as well as another target named “Canisp”. Once these observations are completed, Curiosity will embark on a 15-meter drive and gather post-drive images.

By prioritizing contact science activities in this plan, the team aims to gain a deeper understanding of the geological features and compositions present in this area of the Vera Rubin Ridge. The detailed data collection will contribute valuable insights to the ongoing exploration and research efforts of the Curiosity rover.
