Family Legacy: Friedman’s Shoes Thrives in Downtown Atlanta for 95 Years

Spotlight on Small Businesses: Friedman’s Shoes

Friedman’s Shoes, located at 209 Mitchell Street SW in Downtown Atlanta, is a family-owned men’s and ladies shoe store that has been around for 95 years. The store is well-known among athletes for its selection of plus-size shoes and sells sizes from 7-22 in men’s and 7-14 in ladies.

The business was founded by Phil Friedman who opened a shoe repair business in 1929, and later Bruce Teilhaber purchased the store in the 70’s. Today, all four sons work in the family business along with eight total employees. While Friedman’s is best known for carrying large sizes, the store also sells shoes in all sizes for both men and women. The store is also available online at LargeFeet.com for customers to shop from a wide range of sizes.

Being located in Downtown Atlanta has its advantages as it is once again becoming the heartbeat of the city with exciting developments such as the Centennial Yards project and the revitalization of Underground Atlanta. Brett Teilhaber fondly remembers coming to Downtown to see Braves, Falcons, Hawks, and Flames/Thrashers games. He looks forward to seeing continued growth and success in the area where his family business has deep roots for over 95 years.
