Federal Government Grants Boost Local Organizations in Memphis, TN: $21 Million Awarded to Support Head Start Programs

Congressman Cohen reveals $21.3 million in grants from the Department of Health and Human Services.

In Memphis, Tennessee, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) announced that three local organizations will be receiving substantial grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Memphis Health Center Inc., Porter-Leath, and the Shelby County Board of Education will each receive funding totaling $21,309,797.

Porter-Leath will receive $1,385,603 to operate its Head Start programs, which help prepare young students for school and navigate the world around them. The Shelby County Board of Education will also receive $14,553,699 for their Head Start programs, while Memphis Health Center Inc. will receive $5,370,495 to support its initiatives.

Congressman Cohen expressed his satisfaction with the federal government’s investment in these programs and emphasized the importance of Head Start in improving outcomes for children and families in the community. He highlighted how these grants would ultimately benefit individuals by supporting important initiatives within the organizations they serve.
