Fever Reduction and Rehydration: Everything You Need to Know for Children’s Health during Hot Weather

Is it safe for children with fever to sleep in air conditioning?

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, children with fever over 38.5 degrees (measured under the armpit) and fever over 39 degrees should take fever reducers. This helps to reduce fever and relieve pain. Children with fever can still lie in air-conditioned rooms normally, but it is important not to apply warm compresses, cover up or wrap them in blankets as this can raise their temperature and lead to dehydration. Instead, they should be dressed in light, airy clothes that are not too warm or completely undressed.

It is also important for children with fever to drink plenty of water or Oresol to rehydrate their bodies, along with other fluids like milk and fruit juice to replenish vitamins. Parents should observe any unusual symptoms in their child, such as continuous high fever, wheezing, difficulty breathing, lethargy, convulsions or vomiting. If any of these symptoms occur, it is recommended to take the child to the hospital.

During hot weather, children can eat ice cream and drink cold water normally. However, after eating it is important for parents to give their child a little warm water to clean their throat and raise their throat temperature to avoid a sore throat. Additionally, parents should ensure that their child drinks enough water to prevent dehydration and maintain good hygiene by keeping children’s toys clean to prevent the spread of germs. Sick children should be kept away from school and crowded places
