Fincantieri CEO outlines vision for Italian technology through collaboration in the Mediterranean region

Creating Italian Technology and Preserving the Mediterranean: Folgiero’s Vision at Fincantieri

During a recent conference hosted by Fratelli d’Italia in Pescara, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, shared his vision for creating Italian technology through collaborations between small, medium, and large companies. The focus of this project would be on the Mediterranean region, both geopolitically and in terms of energy and defense-related sectors.

Folgiero highlighted the significance of the Mediterranean as the world’s most geopolitical sea due to its numerous submarine cables, telecommunication cables, and gas pipelines running through it. He emphasized the importance of protecting critical infrastructures in this region and mentioned the potential for mining activities that could provide economic and technological growth opportunities.

As part of its underwater technology expertise stemming from its history with submarines, Fincantieri plans to produce smaller submarines and drones that range from three to nine meters. These technologies will be utilized by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean. The company aims to contribute to defining missions that ensure the protection of key assets in the region.
