The Frontier Cougars clinched the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 2A championship with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Caldwell at J.B. Chambers I-740 Complex in Wheeling, W.Va. Kate Congleton’s first-inning hit proved to be the game-winning RBI, while Kaycee Berentz delivered another pitching gem.

In the first inning, Gracie Mendenhall started with a walk and advanced to second before scoring on Congleton’s single. Berentz and Evelyn Armstrong also contributed hits, but Frontier’s offense was limited by Caldwell’s Makayla Mumaw, who struck out 10 in seven innings.

Despite their best efforts, Frontier struggled to keep up with Caldwell’s defense, resulting in only one hit allowed throughout the game. However, Berentz was outstanding on the mound, striking out 12 without issuing a walk. This victory ended Caldwell’s three-year streak of winning OVAC titles.

Next up for the Cougars is a senior night game against Shenandoah before heading into sectional play. Their sectional tournament begins on May 7 against Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
