IceWorks Skaters Shine in International Theatre on Ice Competition, Finish Fourth in Nations’ Cup

Local Ice Skaters from Delaware County Come Back Home After Competing in France’s World Stage

A group of ice skaters from the IceWorks Skating Club in Aston recently returned home to Delaware County after an exciting trip abroad. They traveled to Bordeaux, France to compete in the Nations’ Cup, which took place on April 25-26. This was the first time that the Theatre on Ice team from IceWorks had the opportunity to compete internationally. Theatre on Ice is a rapidly growing branch of figure skating that combines elements of dancing and drama.

Among the 900 skaters from 47 teams who participated in the competition were twenty skaters from the IceWorks Skating Club. Skaters Emily McKay, 16, and Gemma Hay, 15, reflected on their experiences in France. McKay shared how proud she felt to represent her country, while Hay mentioned the intimidation of competing against skilled skaters but also the excitement of challenging herself against them. Despite being the underdogs as a first-season team at the competition, the team from Aston finished in an impressive fourth place.

Coach Richard Sharpe expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, emphasizing that they exceeded expectations by finishing so highly in the competition. The team’s success was especially noteworthy given that it was their first time competing at this level of international competition, making their achievement all the more impressive.
