Martian Rover Successfully Collects Sample from Highly Coveted Bedrock Outcrop

Sol 1250: Contact Science Experiment Bumping

The Sol 1249 drive was a success, and the rover is now in an area with numerous outcrops of bright bedrock. A large outcrop, visible on the left side of the image, has been selected as the target for dumping a sand sample and further examination this weekend. Before this, the ChemCam and Mastcam will be used to observe the bedrock target known as “Kuiseb.”

Following the observation, the rover will back up slightly and then drive forward to position the large outcrop within arm’s reach for further analysis. After this activity, a series of images will be taken of the workspace to aid in selecting dump sites and contact science targets for the next day. These activities are all part of ongoing exploration and investigation of the Martian environment by the rover.

It is important to note that due to various factors such as communication relays, rover status, and environmental conditions on Mars, dates mentioned in these reports may be subject to change.
