Joe Biden Slams Trump’s Involvement in Abortion Rights, Pokes Fun at Bible Sales: A Critique of Evangelical Politics in America

Biden Criticizes Trump’s Shady Business Scheme Using Biblical Reference

During a speech on Tuesday, President Joe Biden criticized former President Donald Trump for his involvement in the overturning of abortion rights and poked fun at Trump’s recent attempt to sell a Bible. Biden referenced Trump’s praise of the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, joking that it must have come from the Bible Trump is trying to sell with country singer Lee Greenwood.

The Bible, titled “God Bless the USA Bible,” contains the text of the Bible along with Greenwood’s hit song lyrics and various American texts. Biden joked that he almost wanted to buy one to see what was inside, referencing the poor reviews and complaints of sticky pages that the Bible has received. Trump has hailed the court’s decision as a “miracle,” but Biden highlighted that it was a calculated move to secure votes from evangelical voters.

Trump promised to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade in exchange for evangelical support, and with his three appointed justices forming a conservative majority on the court, that promise was fulfilled. The decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case has resulted in abortion bans in several states. Biden emphasized that Trump took credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and advocated for punishing women who seek abortions.

Biden’s remarks came as he campaigned in Florida, where Democrats are hoping that voter anger over abortion restrictions will help in their efforts to flip the state in the upcoming election. The president’s comments served as a critique of Trump’s stance on abortion and his attempts to profit from the sale of a Bible that aligns with his controversial views.
