Montgomery County’s JOBS Initiative: Attracting Businesses and Creating Jobs in Equitable Areas

Council aims to revitalize the economy with a $20 million fund

Montgomery County Councilmembers recently approved a $20 million allocation aimed at revitalizing the local economy. With 25,000 fewer jobs in the county compared to September 2019, council members are actively seeking ways to attract businesses to the area.

The JOBS – Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Support – Initiative is specifically designed to create up to 1,000 jobs, with a focus on equity in areas along the I-270 and Route 29 corridors as well as eastern downcounty. One component of the initiative is a $10 million job creation fund that offers employers $10,000 for each new job created with a salary of at least $100,000, with a maximum of $12,000 per job and $5
