Overcoming the Skills Gap: ‘The Work Travels With Us!’ Event in Messina, Italy

43% of job positions in Sicily remain unfilled due to lack of qualified candidates

In Sicily, a network of employment consultants is currently seeking professional figures across various sectors such as entertainment, optometry, orthopedics, physiatry, wages and contributions expertise, personal assistance, family work, and order management. However, despite the availability of job positions offered by Sicilian companies, a significant 42.7% of them remain vacant due to a lack of suitable candidates. This shortage is particularly evident in the tourism sector where many positions are left unoccupied.

To address this issue and facilitate the connection between job supply and demand, the National Foundation for Labor Consultants has organized a national route called “The work travels with us!” in collaboration with the National Association of Young Labor Consultants and the Provincial Order of Labor Consultants. The final stage of this event will take place in Messina’s Piazza Duomo where specialized professionals will provide guidance and orientation to young people on choosing study paths that align with the demands of the job market. Activities such as group sessions, workshops, and thematic lessons on workplace safety and ethical work will be offered. Participants will also learn about employment opportunities and active policies available in the area and explore platforms like “Sorprendo” to better understand their skills and the job market.

The event will feature discussions with industry experts and business leaders such as Luigi Rizzolo, Vincenzo Silvestri, Luca Paone, Enrico Limardo as well as Messina Mayor Federico Basile. These experts aim to provide valuable insights on the current job market most sought-after professions opportunities for career development in the region. The event seeks to bridge the gap between job seekers potential employers ultimately enhancing employment opportunities in Sicily through initiatives such as Employment Superbonus aimed at encouraging hiring young people women individuals over 35 in South SEZ area.
