Rare Tumor Removal: 73-Year-Old Mr. Binh’s Successful Open Surgery

The nerve is compressed by the kidney-shaped tumor

Mr. Binh, a 73-year-old man, had been experiencing a swollen abdomen for two months. Upon examination, doctors discovered a large, rare tumor behind the peritoneum, pressing on several nerves. The tumor, measuring 6×9 cm, was located in the retroperitoneal cavity, near important nerves and muscles. Due to its size and location, doctors decided that laparoscopic surgery would not be feasible, opting instead for open surgery for better control over blood loss and fewer complications.

During the surgery, the medical team carefully dissected the tissues surrounding the tumor to access and remove it. The tumor, arising from a nerve, required precision and caution during the removal process to avoid damage to nearby nerves. Fortunately, the surgery was successful
