Slovenian State Highway Management Company Urges Public Administration Employees to Work from Home During May Day Holidays to Ease Traffic Congestion

This Marks the First Time Slovenians Have Made an Unusual Request Amid May’s Tourism Surge to Croatia

On Friday, the Slovenian state highway management company, DARS, made a public appeal to the Ministry of Public Administration requesting that public administration employees work from home as much as possible during the month of May to relieve traffic congestion on the roads, particularly during the May Day holidays. This was the first time DARS had made such an appeal.

DARS warned the ministry that traffic jams were expected to increase on Slovenian roads during the May Day holidays, as both tourists and daily commuters would be traveling. They emphasized that the appeal was aimed at reducing traffic in the capital city of Ljubljana, where congestion is typically the worst. Based on past experiences, DARS believed that having public administration employees work from home would improve traffic flow in the city.

However, according to unofficial information, the ministry did not plan to follow DARS’ recommendations. The police departments in areas like Koper also issued warnings about increased traffic during the holiday period.
