Waterloo woman’s plans for equine therapy business derailed by tornado as she loses beloved horse

Victoria Fluhart and her husband, Justin, faced tragedy when a tornado struck Waterloo, just days before they were set to host an open house for their equine therapy business. Despite the danger, Victoria’s first instinct was to save the horses on the property owned by Brandon Johnson of Jamico Construction. However, in the aftermath of the storm, she found her beloved mare, Onyx, dead.

Though devastated by the loss of Onyx, who had been with Victoria for 18 years and served as a friend, partner, champion, business partner and therapist, Victoria is determined to continue pursuing her dream of equine therapy. With the help of the community in Waterloo, she is beginning to move forward and is grateful for assistance with clean-up. Despite facing challenges such as rebuilding and continuing to work towards their dream of hosting an open house for their business.

Thanks to community donations, the Fluharts hope to have a small building constructed by summer where they can eventually host their open house. Their determination to rebuild and pursue their dreams remains strong despite the hardships they have endured.
