Tax Declaration Success: Over 300,000 Users and a Focus on Support for Taxpayers

The Director of the DGFiP declares tax declaration by telephone a success

The recent introduction of telephone tax declarations has been hailed as a success, with over 300,000 taxpayers already utilizing this option. The Minister of Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, was among those who took advantage of this new method.

Director General Amélie Verdier expressed satisfaction with the positive response to the new approach, particularly for simple declarations. She highlighted the importance of contacting the tax authorities via email, telephone or in person for any doubts or questions and emphasized that it is crucial to declare income from rental services like Airbnb.

Despite an increase in local public services such as France Services houses, Verdier acknowledged the challenges faced last year with the declaration of real estate which led to confusion among taxpayers. However, she did not provide clarity on whether a fine would be enforced this year for undeclared premises.

The administration is focused on providing accurate information and support to taxpayers to ensure confidence in the tax declaration process. With less than two months left before the deadline, Verdier urged taxpayers to take advantage of the various contact points available for any assistance needed during the declaration process.

Regarding the gap between estimated and actual revenues in 2023 which contributed to a deficit reaching 5.5% of GDP, Verdier stated that the administration is still analyzing the reasons behind this discrepancy. Factors such as a slowdown in inflation affecting VAT collection have been attributed to this shortfall.

As May 21st approaches and June 6th draws nearer depending on declared method and location; taxpayers are encouraged to use any available contact points for help during their tax declaration campaign.

Overall, it appears that Verdier is optimistic about this year’s tax declaration process despite some lingering concerns regarding past years’ issues with real estate declarations and revenue discrepancies.
