UMG and TikTok Reach a Licensing Agreement to Bring Music Back to Popular Videos, Protect Artists and Promote Analytics

UMG licensing agreement brings Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny songs back to TikTok

Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok have reached a new licensing agreement that will once again allow users of the social network to use songs from popular artists like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny in their videos. This agreement is designed to protect the value of music, promote human art, and support the well-being of the creative community.

According to UMG president and CEO Lucian Grainge, this deal focuses on finding new ways for artists to monetize their music on the platform while also providing tools for analytics and integrated sales capabilities that help them connect with fans globally. Users will now have access to UMG’s extensive song catalog, featuring popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Drake.

Both parties have agreed on new terms for remuneration and protection from artificial intelligence. Measures have been put in place to ensure that only authorized AI-generated music is used on TikTok, while unauthorized AI-generated music is removed from the platform entirely.

TikTok CEO Shou Chew expressed his satisfaction with the renewed relationship with Universal Music Group, stating that music plays a crucial role in TikTok’s ecosystem. Both companies are currently working together to make these songs available to users quickly so they can create engaging videos.
