US Soccer Federation and Mexico Football Federation Withdraw Joint Bid for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup to Focus on 2031 Tournament

Joint bid by US and Mexico for hosting 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup withdrawn

The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, citing a desire to focus on bidding for the 2031 tournament instead. This leaves two remaining bids for the 2027 tournament – one from Brazil and a joint bid from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany. The winning bid will be decided at the 74th FIFA Congress in May.

In response to this decision, US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone stated that shifting the bid will allow for more time to prepare and maximize the impact of hosting a record-breaking Women’s World Cup in 2031. Despite this, there will still be a busy schedule of international soccer competitions in the US in the coming years.

In addition to hosting the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, co-hosting the FIFA Men’s World Cup with Mexico and Canada in 2026, and hosting the summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, the US experience gained from co-hosting the men’s World Cup will help Mexico provide infrastructure and enthusiastic support for the 2031 Women’s World Cup. This will contribute to global growth of women’s football.
