VCSU Trap Club: Rising Through the Competition with Exciting Wins and Upcoming Shooting Sports Team

Schafer from VCSU clinches trap shoot state title

The Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club recently took part in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot on April 27. During the event, Freshman Kaden Schafer, who is majoring in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences, emerged as the top male shooter in Singles Trap after a two-round shoot-off that broke a three-way tie. Other top performers for the day included Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs.

VCSU’s club advisor and professor Dr. Nick Galt expressed his excitement about the event, stating that it was great to compete against other collegiate level teams from the region. According to Dr. Galt, trap shooting is a highly competitive sport and it’s always exciting to have high-level competitors to compete against. In fact, VCSU will be launching an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall semester.

Despite the windy conditions that made it difficult to hit targets accurately, Schafer was pleased with his performance and impressed by the respect between competitors during a high-stakes shoot-off.
