The Green Bay Packers recently made a significant change by moving Alex McGough from quarterback to wide receiver. At 28 years old, McGough spent last season on the team’s practice squad as the third quarterback behind Jordan Love and Sean Clifford. Packers coach Matt LaFleur praised McGough’s athleticism, mentioning his time spent on the scout team running receiver routes.
Despite selecting Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt in the seventh round, the Packers did not draft a receiver or sign one in free agency. The wide receiver room is quite crowded, with McGough joining a group that includes Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Malik Heath, Samori Toure, Grant DuBose, and Thyrick Pitts. McGough, who was named the USFL MVP in 2023, could also contribute on special teams. It’s worth noting that McGough has never played in an NFL regular-season game.
