From Leaky Roof to Enhanced Living: Patsy Owens’ Journey with the Connected Communities Program

Chattanooga seniors benefit from expanded home and technology upgrade program with federal grant

Ten years ago, Patsy Owens bought a home in Orchard Knob but struggled to afford repairs for her aging roof on Ivy Street. Last year, she was approved for a new roof as part of the Connected Communities Program, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the area. This project greatly improved her life and gave her a sense of relief that she would not have been able to afford on her own.

Owens expressed her gratitude for the program in a recent telephone interview, saying that her house had not seen a new roof in many years and that the assistance she received was crucial. She emphasized that the program had made a positive impact on her life and highlighted its importance for many residents in the Orchard Knob community.

The Connected Communities Program has been instrumental in improving the quality of life for individuals living in Orchard Knob by providing access to various resources such as home energy upgrades, laptop computers, and internet connectivity for telehealth and other online services. Owens is just one of many residents who have benefited from this initiative, which has played a crucial role in enhancing their lives.
