Giants Take Big Swing with Rare WR Draft Picks in a Surprise Draft Pick for 2023

LSU’s Malik Nabers joins the New York Giants

The New York Giants made a surprise pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, selecting Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall choice. This move was aimed at bolstering their roster with an explosive receiving threat.

The team has been searching for a player of this caliber ever since they selected LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the first round back in 2014. Nabers possesses physicality, elite ball skills, and strong route-running abilities, having recorded impressive stats of 89 receptions, 1,569 yards, and 14 touchdowns in his last season.

Rumors had circulated that the Giants might trade up to secure a quarterback in the draft, especially given Daniel Jones’ uncertain availability for the beginning of the season due to ACL surgery. However, this scenario did not materialize as expected as other teams snapped up quarterbacks with earlier picks. Jones is set to turn 27 and has led the Giants to one playoff appearance since becoming their starter in his rookie season in 2019.

The Giants struggled offensively last season and finished with a dismal record of 6-11 while missing out on playoffs after making it in 2022. With Nabers now joining a receiving group that includes Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Isaiah Hodgins, this addition could help boost their offensive output and give them more options on offense.
